Premise

Book Three sits near the far end of the chronology. Humanity has expanded so widely that the old dream of meeting alien life has become an old wound. There are no alien empires, no ancient teachers, no outside judgment. There are only humans, AI, humanoid citizens, pirate states, corporate empires, and the weapons they built to control each other.

Lore

The Empty Crown era is built on disappointment. Humanity wanted the universe to answer back. Instead it found resources, ruins of its own failed colonies, old probes, machine archives, and silence. AI becomes the closest thing to another intelligence, but AI is also made from human history, human labor, human fear, and human ambition.
